September 1977 or 1978
One or two years ago there was something in the TCU magazine about the SMU band members dropping grass seed onto the TCU stadium floor, and it sprouted the next spring giving us a 'SMU' design in the grass.
Which caused me to recall this photo, taken in Dallas at a TCU-SMU game. I think its 1978 but am not positive - it was definitely in Dallas (away game). Way back when, before 'super frog' there was a creature known as 'Addie'. This is a plaster head for the Addie costume. Note the decal on the front. SMU band folks back in the 1970s, and apparently continuing to the present day, seem to enjoy pulling pranks. They stole this from TCU, plastered their 'SMU mustang band' decal on it, and presented it to the TCU band when we marched into the stadium. I guess they were hoping the person who played 'Addie' would have to wear it, but this was an old head, and not in current use. I can't recall if we brought it back to Fort Worth, or left it it in the stadium as a present for SMU.
