HOMECOMING
2000
If you haven’t heard (or received
any Homecoming information from TCU yet), we’re having another
barbecue luncheon this year! And yes, it’s free again for the
whole family thanks to many generous donations from the Ex-Bandsmen! I
will be ordering food for about 125 people, so let’s try and get as many
people to attend as possible! Last year we had 135 people attend!
It was the largest turnout that we have EVER had.
The luncheon will be from 11:30am-1:00pm in the Choral Room, just
off the 2nd floor lobby of the Walsh Center. The Walsh Center
is in the West End of Ed Landreth Hall, behind the TCU Theater. We have
ordered tables and seating for 125 in the lobby area, so there should be
plenty of room. Our annual
business meeting will be held during the luncheon along with our Band of
Fame presentations. And for
you Alumni Band members, don’t forget to meet on the field of Amon
Carter Stadium at 10:00am for the pre-game rehearsal! Last year we had the
largest Alumni Band ever! Let’s
break the record! Let
me know how many of you are coming!!!
p.s. Homecoming
is Saturday, October 28th!!!!
NEW
DIRECTOR OF BANDS AT TCU!
Bobby Francis has been chosen to become TCU’s
Director of Bands. Bobby
comes to us from Texas A&M Commerce.
We want to welcome Bobby in his new role and give him our support!
UPDATE ON THE JIM AND WYN JACOBSEN FUND:
Currently, the Fund has almost
$40,000 in it!! For all of
you that have donated to the Fund, THANK YOU!!!
If you would like more information on the Jacobsen Fund, please
contact me (Mark Sakovich).
Special Event!
Be in the Alumni Band! Yes,
the WORLD FAMOUS Alumni Band will again be performing at the
pregame show at Homecoming. Meet
on the field of Amon Carter Stadium at 10:00am for rehearsal.
After the BBQ luncheon, meet by the Student Center at 1:00pm.
Then march into the stadium with the Band!
Frogs ranked in TOP 20
in polls!
Yes, hard as it may seem to
believe, TCU is ranked in most football polls in the top 20.
In fact, MANY of them are predicting that the Frogs will go
undefeated!! Let’s get out
there and support the Football Team as well as the Band!
FROM CURT WILSON:
The
TCU Jazz Ensemble appeared at the Montreaux and Vienna Jazz Festivals this
past July. There were also
performances at Budapest, Hungary, and Bregenz, Austria.
Forty students and adults (including Chancellor Ferrari and his
wife) made the trip. The new
2000 TCU Jazz Ensemble CD will be released as soon as funds can be raised.
It has already been recorded and features live performances from
the Valentine concert, the European Tour, and studio sessions!
Can’t wait!!
Band of Fame Nominations
We have received three nominations for the Ex-Bandsmen Band of Fame

GO
TCU BAND!

GO HORNED FROGS!
From the “Veep”
The
TCU Band has a tradition of producing outstanding individuals that honor
both TCU and the Band. These
individuals are selected for membership in the Band of Fame.
I thought that it would be good for everyone to see who is in the
Band of Fame:
James
A. and Wyn Jacobsen, Frederick Cahoon, Perry Sandifer, “Curly”
Broyles, Lew Gillis, John Giordano, Leon Breeden, Dr. James Moudy, Clinton
Hackney, Kenneth Vaughan, Curt Wilson, Joyce Roach, Frank Kasko, Don
Hayes, Lt. Col. Ray Toler, Wayne Owen, Ernest Repass, Morris Repass,
Charles Hoffman, Phil Aikman, Bob Wright, Jim McDaniel, Alto Tatum,
Preston Thomas, Sam Bogart, Ron Puckett, Dave and Pat Huff.
Who
will be selected for the Band of Fame this year?
Come
to Homecoming 2000 and find out!
President’s Final Thoughts...
Our organization is at a crossroads of sorts…
We can keep increasing our visibility and vitality, or we can
remain static (that is, stay where we are at).
In the past 2 years, through various means, we have increased the
number of members that are coming to our meeting at Homecoming, we are
getting our information out to more members than ever before, and the
Alumni Band’s numbers are increasing (we may even have 100 members
playing this year). And what
has occurred to make all of this happen?
Simple: You got
involved! A friend of mine
recently said that part of the football team’s recent success is that
they believe in themselves. I believe that we can have an organization
that is just as successful! All
we have to do is participate!
I mentioned earlier in the
newsletter that if you would like to purchase one of our window stickers,
please send a SASE and $1.00 (make checks payable to the TCU Ex-Bandsmen
Association) to me at:

Also, use this address and
e-mail to let me know if you are coming to the BBQ!!!
WHAT TO WEAR???
Let’s all try to wear a purple and/or white top of some kind.
There will also be a “special” Homecoming 2000 T-shirt that
will possibly be available from TCU for $10.00 if you are interested.
GO
ALUMNI BAND!!
Tickets? Do We Need
Tickets?
All members of the Alumni Band that march in with the Band for
the pre-game will not need tickets to the game! (Thanks, Fred Velez!!) You
may also sit with the Band (in the last several rows of the Band’s
section) during the game. Family members that accompany you will
need tickets! However, we
will have discounted game tickets at the luncheon that you will be able to
purchase for $7.00. (A
steal…!) The Marching Band
meets by the Student Center at 1:00pm and marches down to the stadium from
there. We will announce this again at the luncheon.
Upcoming
Events:
The TCU Wind Symphony
will have a concert on Oct. 23, 2000, 7:30pm at Ed Landreth Hall.
They will feature music by Dzubay, Gounod, Ticheli, Grainger and
Hartley.
On
November 4, at 7:30pm at Ed Landreth Hall, there will be a combined
concert with Choir. This
concert will feature lots of Holiday music.
Bring the whole family!
The
TCU Wind Symphony will also be performing in Dallas at the Dallas
Convention Center for the PASIC (Percussive Arts Society) International
Conference at 12:00pm, November 17th.
They will be accompanying the four finalists for their solo
contests and will be premiering a new work for solo percussion and Wind
Ensemble.
And
last but not least, Bobby Francis will be judging the State Marching
Contest this year on November 6th, and the Arizona State
University Marching Festival on October 21st.
He will also be conducting the All-Region Honor Bands in Corpus
Christi, Richardson and Nederland this year.
He will be conducting the ATSSB All-State Concert Band as part of
the TMEA Convention in San Antonio in Feb. 2001.
(What a busy guy!)
Where Are They???
We still don’t have very
much information on the Band members from 1995-2000. If you know of anyone that was in the Band during this time,
please let me know who they were so that I can get the information to the
Alumni Office.
IT’S BACK…..!

GO
ALUMNI BAND!!
